Document Management System Gives Physicians 24/7 Access to Patient Records

"We've been able to improve access to our records since the implementation of our document management system," says Danielle Berthelot, RHIA, Director of Health Information at Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. "And our physicians now have access 24/7 from any place that they can actually get an Internet connection. So physicians not only can view patients' records when they need it for clinical situations but they can also complete their medical records. So right now if the physician is in his office he can walk out of an exam room and look at a current patient record or he can actually complete those. And a lot of our physicians use the time in between appointments to sign records, which for us has made it very good because it's decreased our delinquency probably about 10, 11% since our implementation; and for the physicians it makes it easier for them because they're not confined to the hospital to do medical records. They can do it at a time and place that's convenient for them. It makes it much better, increases satisfaction for everybody."
